GEORGE HENRY MEISSNER

Born at Hamburg 23 Feb 1838.

Immigrated to America in October 1845 with Friedrich A Meissner, his mother, and three older siblings.

Fought in the Civil War with Co F, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry, and lost a leg.

Lived at Cass, Hamilton Co, IA 1871-1903.

Then joined his sister at Petaluma, where he died 10 Jan 1924,

survived by two daughters (Kittie, Mary) and two sons (George, Edgar).

Ernest Frederick Meissner (1859 - 1940) brother of Adolph:
married Martha Bradshaw at Beaver UT in 1883. They had 8 children who survived beyond infancy: Ernest Richard, Frederick, George, Frank, Eva (Lefferson), Nellie (Rose), Martha (Bucknum), and Lena (Stapleton ...)

I've only just begun documenting Ernest and his descendants - there'll be more later.

Three Oleman brothers - Charles, John, and Henry - settled in Oregon about 1890.

Ernest Meissner moved to the same area about 1914, and his nephew (Adam) Joe Meissner visited Ernest a few years later. Two connections resulted, between Meissner family members and children of Henry Oleman.

Mildred, the youngest daughter of Charles Oleman, wrote down some recollections about her family, just before she died in 1990. These were preserved by Ardeth McBride and are transcribed here.

New information about Loretta's ancestors:

The mother of William Brey (Bray) was probably Lovina Vanderpool, daughter of Anthony Vanderpool (son of immigrants from the Netherlands) and of Elizabeth Johnson (of Oneida Indian descent). Still nothing more about William Brey's father, the "Mysterious Red-Haired Irishman."

Thomas Henry Tregoning was an uncle of Grace T Tregoning who married Willard Scott Chaddock. Willard was a nephew of Samantha Andrus (g-grandmother of Manly), and Grace was a stepdaughter of James Reed (uncle of Hazel). Thomas Henry was involved in a tragic incident in Colorado in 1873, and apparently died during his attempt to flee to Canada to escape murder charges. (Added 2004).
