Exodus from Mexico, April 1914

Adolph and Loretta with children (L to R)
Paul, Edith, Carrie, Percy James, Lillian, Charles, and Manly.
(Identity of the man at far left is unknown).

In August 1911 Adolph F Meissner and Loretta (Haskins) moved to a farm near Medina, Oaxaca, Mexico, with Manly, Charles, Carrie, Paul, Lillian, Edith, and Percy James. In April 1914 they were forced to return to the US due to a revolution in Mexico. They went to Upland CA where Dillie was living. The picture above, which was taken during their exodus from Mexico, appeared in McClure's Magazine in 1914.

In 1916 the family moved to Panama, with the same children except for Carrie who  remained in CA, and they remained in Panama until 1922. The picture below was taken in Panama in 1919. Especially striking is the difference in Loretta's appearance between the two pictures. Although she is actually 5 years older in the second picture, she appears much younger.
