OBEDIAH PRICHARD III (3; TS Anc #32. Source: Broderbund WFT #2871) was born 1735 (Source: The Prichard Family by M. Johnson, 1915.), and died WFT Est. 1736-1825.

Notes for OBEDIAH PRICHARD III:
WFT 2871 has: Obediah (m Margaret 1699); Sons of Obediah are Samuel b 1710, Obediah Jr b 1711, James b 1713; Children of Samuel are Obediah [III] b 1735, John b 1736, Ruben b 1740, Charles Anderson b 1743, James b 1746, Samuel b 1748. WFT 2871 does not list descendants of Obediah III, but he is the only listed Obediah who is a grandson of Obediah I (in spite of the mismatch with birth date given by Thelma).

Thelma Sargent's book gives birth "about 1755" based on unconfirmed information from Mr. Gwynne Edson (May 1980; RD 1-A, Russel PA 16345); she lists children of Obediah (b abt 1755) as Isaac [3.1], John [3.2], Joshua [3.3], Samuel [3.4], James [3.5], William [3.6], George [3.7], Betsy [3.8], and Polly [3.9]. Note the total overlap with names of Joshua's children (assuming Betsy = Elizabeth]. Although this would not be uncommon, there is no other known documentation for Thelma's list.

Joshua Prichard is well documented in various sources, including "First 100 Years in Cobb County [GA]" [by Mrs. Temple?] and records from Mars Hill Cem near Acworth GA. Thelma Sargent in her "Pritchard, Vaught, Beasley, Sargent" compilation [1984] quotes several sources for data concerning her #3.3. Joshua Prichard b 13 Mar 1782, m Milley Tippins [see her p 50 for spelling] abt 1804, d 8 Jan 1863. According to "First 100 Years in Cobb County [GA]", Joshua Prichard moved from NC to Hall Co, then to Proctors Creek near Acworth GA where he lived 1832-1840. However, Joshua's connection with Obadiah (III, b 1735, q.v.) is not well documented.

Loren Meissner has also recorded a source "Emma Clemmons" (possibly from his review of genealogical records at Univ of CA library, Berkeley, about 1960). She is probably TS # 3.3.8.3 7 Mary Emma Pritchard who married Alex Clements, quoted by Thelma Sargent in several places.

TS: "In 1810, [Joshua and Milley] were living in Pendelton District, SC. Close by were Lewis Prichard Sr, Lewis Jr, and William Prichard." [William could be Joshua's brother; and WFT 2871 lists Lewis, son of James, brother of Obediah who we are assuming to be Joshua's father; accordingly, Lewis is Joshua's cousin. Lewis in WFT 2871 also has a son, Lewis Jr.] "By 1820, Joshua and Milley had moved their family to Gwinnett Co, GA. By 1840, they had moved to Cobb Co., GA. Joshua had been eligible to draw in the state land lotteries. They drew 160 acres, south of Proctor's Creek and made friends with their Cherokee neighbors. . . ."

" I remember this couple; they lived outside of Gorman, Eastland Co, TX-at least that is where we lived when I visited them. I was around 5 years old and we would go to visit them. They lived on a rise of land and always had a garden at the back door, with grape vines. On back was a grove of pecan trees that we delighted to play under and pick up pecans-as I think back, these could have been walnuts. They had 9 children, 8 living in 1900. Aunt Em had a back ailment that caused her to be almost at a right angle when she walked. She always made us a cobbler when we visited. In later years, about 1941, I went out to this same house with Aunt Rosa Boucher. It was deserted and has probably since been torn down. This was also the place, she said, that my grandfather, John Anderson Pritchard, was bitten by a mad dog and later died. The tree where the dog was tied was still there and the porch where my Grandpa's bed had been. 1975 [1925?], she said he died and was buried near Burnett TX, near Johnson City." About William E. Pritchard, reported by Lewis Garnett Pritchard, son: "My father, William E. Pritchard, was a white man. Everybody called him George. He was born in Cobb Co, GA and raised in TX. He died at Hugo OK and was buried beside my mother at Doaksville in the old Cem. When he was 15 years old he began working for the famous cattle dealer, Bill Littlefield, and worked for him 18 years, driving cattle over the Chisholm Trail to Dodge City KS. [This would have been 1871-1889.] One of the biggest herds that he said he ever drove was 4200 head of steers. Littlefield wanted him to go over into the Indian Territory and seek out a location for a ranch. (Belton TX was just a post office and hitching rack then.) So he visited his mother at Belton TX for a while, then went over into the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, where he met and married my mother and established ranches of his own. He had saved up three or four thousand dollars and thought he just might as well swing out for himself. One of the first things he did was to build that old native stone chimney that stands where the house burned 27 Oct 1934, add more rooms, and build big barns. Mama had a few head of cattle and plenty of land. He had his money and wide open range. He got to be one of the foremost ranchers in southeastern Indian Territory. One time he and his family owned 2100 acres of land and he had leased about 2000 acres for grazing cattle. He held three, four, and five year old steers under fence and raised the younger ones on the range. My daddy's brand was "TY"; nobody else ever ran that one. . . We always kept hired hands and made good feed crops: corn, cane, and oats."
It is surmised that Pritchard married Lizzie under Choctaw law, because at the time of allotment enrollment he was enrolled as an intermarried white citizen of the Choctaw nation. Those whites who did not marry under the Indian law were not entitled to enroll.
